Frost Dates by State & City

Your average last spring frost and first fall frost are the two dates the whole garden year is planned around. Pick your state below — or jump straight to the ZIP code lookup.

How to read these dates

Each date is the median from 30 years of records (1991–2020 climate normals): half of years see frost after the spring date or before the fall one. Plant hardy crops right on the dates, and give tender crops a 1–2 week cushion. Elevation, slope, and distance to water shift real-world frost by a week or more within a single metro — treat your city’s dates as a well-informed starting point, then adjust for your own microclimate.
